The British Embassy Kabul provides a limited consular service. The Consular Office is open to the public between 08:30 and 11:30 Sunday to Thursday.
All British citizens travelling to Afghanistan should register with the British Embassy Kabul via LOCATE. The Embassy also has a limited consular responsibility for non represented Commonwealth and EU nationals. Once you have registered via LOCATE the Embassy will act as your warden. The Consular Section will send you information through Locate to your preferred E-mail account.
The Embassy does not issue passports but a Emergency Travel Document can be provided if your passport has been lost, stolen or is unsuitable for use. It is the responsibility of the holder of an Emergency Travel Document to obtain any additional visas, which may be required.
Travellers should ensure they carry sufficient money with them, in the form of US dollars, because credit cards are not widely accepted. There are a number of ATMs at banks and hotels in Afghanistan dispensing US dollars. Traveller’s cheques are not widely accepted and can take up to two weeks to clear. It is possible to remit funds via Standard Chartered Bank Kabul and Western Union.
